Why This Matters

Understanding the impact of computational research

Switzerland has long been a pioneer in developing open databases and scientific applications. Yet, integrating these resources into increasingly complex computational pipelines often demands specialized expertise and raises reproducibility challenges. Furthermore, their fragmentation across disciplines further limits their potential for transdisciplinary research.

To address this, we will build on Galaxy, an open-source, web-based platform that has successfully lowered computational barriers in the life sciences and is now expanding into new scientific domains. The Galaxy SWISS instance will unify key Swiss databases and software applications across multiple disciplines, tailored to the specific needs of Swiss researchers. Our vision is to connect scientific disciplines, break silos, and enable true transdisciplinary research. Hosting data and computation within Switzerland will safeguard national capacity while promoting FAIR principles, open science, and collaborative workflow sharing.

Establishing a national Galaxy instance will democratize access to advanced computational applications and reproducible workflows, strengthen Switzerland's leadership in open science, and accelerate transdisciplinary research.
